Joaquim Pires Valentim is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra. He holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Coimbra. He has done also the European PhD on Social Representations and Communication (University of Helsinki, University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’, ISCTE Lisbon). His main research focus is in the fields of social representations, intergroup relations, cultural diversity, political psychology and collective memory. In these domains, he has been Principal Investigator as well as a team member in several Portuguese nationally funded projects and in European funded projects (namely, 7th Framework Program and COST). Beyond research and teaching activities he carries out university management tasks and he has been an evaluator of proposals of scientific projects, namely for the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (French), the Conseil de Recherche en Sciences Humaines (Canada) and the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – FNRS (Belgium).
